My roommate and I are both very active personalities on campus and in the community in Amarillo and Canyon. TraMicah Young was a Disc Jockey last night at a large gathering just for the BWA here at WT. (Black Womens Association) He had quite a large turnout and he did a great job at the show. The greatest part about the actual party was the fact that most of the people that did come out were students from WT and they came out to support either my roommate or the BWA. I have lately been continuously impressed by the population of this campus and how much pride they actually take in the school and their peers. I am always caught off guard with something new at WT that catches me by surprise and I think that is another item I can add to the list of things I LOVE about this school.

I noticed this weekend as I FaceBook creeped all of my peers from WT, most of us refer to Canyon, Texas as “Canyon, America”. I was curious as to why people call it that and I think it may be because the fact that when you want to do anything…it feels like a totally different country when you go to Amarillo or Lubbock. Canyon is awfully nice…if you want to have a calm, cool and collected weekend like I usually do. I spent the weekend at work, doing laundry and watching TV and movies all day and night Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. With the exception of a short trip to Lubbock for a high school playoff game. Sometimes, being from the panhandle, I wonder why people choose to attend WT even AFTER visiting but I am learning more and more as I mature that being in a calm agriculturally dominant town isn’t so bad. I really like being around all these nice people, nice roads and nice…cows in Canyon, America.
Just got out of a peer leader meeting here in the Classroom Center on campus. Always love meeting with my dysfunctional “family”. We talked about the retention rate here at school. I never thought about how many people I remember seeing here last year and how many of them are or aren’t here right now. It’s amazing to me how you can start such an amazing experience here or at any school but, for any reason at all, have to cut it short. I know that when I got to school, I was not going to stop no matter where I was and I still know I am not going to. I really enjoy my time here at WT more and more with all the organizations I am involved with and I spend most of my time sitting in front of a power point presentation learning something I am supposed to be doing soon. That is what constitutes a “meeting” for me. Usually with 20-40 people surrounding me and all chattering amongst themselves. Me? Intently listening. Smiling face, bag at my waist…
Well check this out…I was a peer leader this whole past summer and I became rather acquainted with some of the faculty on campus as well as some of the new students…I met a lot of people this summer. People who can help me out, people I can talk to, and just people who work at Wt. Well these people that I met all summer…they all know each other. And they talk too. I found out that a lot of the faculty meet students through other students and other faculty. The faculty is fairly aware of many students names and many don’t realize that when they walk by an occupied office, odds are, someone is waving/smiling/greeting them but they don’t even know it!
Well as I walked thru the classroom center today to go and talk to my peer leading boss, well I get stopped by a couple guys. To keep walking? “um ok,” I replied as they asked me to turn around and act natural walking thru the classroom center so they could capture a picture of me. Didn’t even ask me if I would like a copy! Not that I wasn’t willing, or upset, but they could have explained what was going on pr something. Lol just one of the many odd things that may happen to someone on the campus at WTAMU…
Well…I hate to say it but there isn’t much to say on my own behalf about myself. I am a self-proclaimed poet. I run track and field for West Texas A&M UNiversity. I am a Mass Communications major here. I spend most of my time cooped up in a bedroom under covers writing in my notebook or taking down a quick idea on a notepad in my back pocket. I originally did not want to attend WT but I don’t think I have made a better decision in my life…oh yea, my name is Daniel Zewde too. That’s ZO-DAY to those who may need a bit of phonetic assistance. I definitely have a lot to say about the day-to-day on-goings at WT and how much I enjoy/dislike them but I will leave things to be said at a later time and simply use this post as a sort of introductory or inaugural post.
