Hello old friend…

So a blog probably needs to be written.  I kind of slacked off.  In all honesty though, I have been super busy.  I’m only taking ten hours this semester; however, I’m busier than ever with extracurriculars.  It’s great to be busy, makes the semester fly by faster. (seems like we just started…hard to believe that in 26 days I will be on a jet plane to Poland!)

So to catch you up on WT.  The CC has closed down.  It was such a weird feeling to walk in over there right at the start of the construction.  Walls were torn out, desk were gone.  So weird.  I went in the Old Fine Arts Building the other day to run some errands and reminisce about the days I spent over there.  It’s odd to see it back in action.  Different offices….same smell.

Some people have complained about all this business. But I find it thrilling.  The end product will be amazing!  I can’t wait to come back as an alumni and see how the campus has changed.  Value in my degree constantly increasing.

I have figured out the next two years of my life.  I’m sticking around for grad school.  Exciting to have figured this out.  I am going to be the First Year Experience Graduate Assistant.  I’ll be planning NSO, assisting with Buff Branding, Convocation and the Freshman Seminar class.  I’m stoked considering I want to do that stuff as a future career.

I’m also pretty pumped about the presidential elections.  Regardless of what side of the line you stand on, this primary season is exciting and it is exciting to discuss it with peers. The energy is brilliant!

Hmm…Ok.  Lunch time.  I’ll be more consistent. Promise!

Until then.

Party in the HELC…or…not.

So I am down here in the computer lab printing off a study guide for a final tomorrow.  No, I’m not procrastinating…it’s one I made to remember the information easier.

Anywho, so I’m down here in the HELC and I know NO ONE!  This is such a rarity.  I mean, I used to dread coming down here, not because I hate the facilities; far from it, cause the HELC has some pretty kick ass stuff.  No…I used to hate coming down here because I would never get anything done.  I’d see tons of people and would stay for hours just chatting it up.  It was like the after party for the JBK.  Everyone would end up coming over here at night to study and what not, so you’d see everyone.

Tonight it is just as busy as it used to be; however, my circle of friends has grown smaller now that I am a senior.  Everyone I used to hang out with has since graduated, and the ones I do hang out with now were never down here to begin with.   It’s kind of bittersweet I guess.  There are tons of fresh faces here at WT who will soon be in the same boat as me, so that’s a good thing.  It’s just a bummer because it is the realization that I am about to have to leave to enter the real world.   SCARY!!!!!

Well, I guess I have rambled enough for tonight.  Back to the task at hand, print off my stuff and go study.

 Good Night and Good Luck {on finals.}

everyone knows i’m in over my head…

Wow…only three more class days.  This is a bittersweet time of the semester.  Yeah…we’re done with classes.  {thank goodness} However, it is crunch time to finish all the papers, assignments, and to study for the finals that are quickly approaching.    Stress  My advice,  don’t stress too much.  Sure, it’s hard not to when it seems you are quickly getting buried in schoolwork.  Just keep in mind that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that these last few assignments and test will not make or break your grade; there have been other assignments and test all year that will be calculated into your final grade.  So really, though it may be a stressful time, it’s not as bad as it seems.   ….OK, now that I have psyched myself for this week, I hope you have a great one and try to listen to my advice.  Don’t get too caught up in it all.  It’s almost over! -wes p.s. - Notice the maroon wall?  I have recently moved into new digs.  Student Affairs and the Student Government offices have moved into a pretty rockin’ new suite.  I lost a window, but I gained a maroon wall.

thank you….

So Thanksgiving is already here! INSANE! I have a few things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving; overall, this semester has been FABULOUS! So I am thankful for that; however, I’m more thankful for the break.

With a little help from my friends…

It’s Wednesday! WOOT!!!!! Thank goodness….this week has been long. Turkey Day is only two weeks away, exciting because it’s my birthday the same day and we get a much-needed break from class! Sweet action.

On another topic, GO SEE ACROSS THE UNIVERSE! Such a good film. I went and saw it this weekend with a friend. It’s such a unique story line. The concept is really cool, everything relates around Beatles songs. The soundtrack is amazingly awesome. Julie Taymor, the director and writer, is a genius. Seriously…go check it out!

Ok. I’m off…check back later this week for my Top 10 list of Canyon.

good day sunlinght, I’d like to say how truly bright you are…

Overall, great weekend. GRE wasn’t too terrible and the rest of the weekend was spent hanging out with great friends and reading a good book.

Saturday night I went to a couple of haunted houses in Amarillo. Not gonna lie, one of them scared the pee out of me. The other house…not so scary; a lot of hype for little fright. :-/ No worries, a lot of fun was had that night.

A Thousand Splendid Suns

Sunday, I became enthralled with, “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. It’s not too often that you read a book for class that you actually enjoy. I’m going to write a book report about it for International Law. If you haven’t heard of the book, it’s written by the same guy who wrote, “The Kite Runner”. The words are beautiful. It’s graphic, it’s heart-breaking, it’s captivating. It’s amazingly beautiful. I highly suggest going out and getting a copy….or go download it on iTunes.

Alright boys and girls…I must go get ready for Student Senate.

G’afternoon.

leavin’ on a jet plane…

What a busy week!!!

I’m going to Poland with 20 freshmen, two other peer leaders and my bosses for Spring Break as part of the Readership WT Program. We’re going to retrace Elie Wiesel’s footsteps from his home to the concentration camp. As one student said during her interview, we will be, “shell-shocked”. I’m excited. The whole trip will put life into perspective and bring out in all of us so many emotions.

Yesterday, we announced to the 20 freshmen that they were the winners of the essay contest. Such a great experience that was. Seeing the smiles on their faces, them interacting with each other, really made me happy. Stuff like this makes me feel good about my future career choice, working at a University in First-Year Experience Programs.

Speaking of future careers…GRE tomorrow morning.
YIKES!
Honestly though, I’m not too worried about it.

Alrighty…class calls my name. More than likely going to a Haunted House this weekend. Expect stories/pictures.

Until then…

Fall is here…

WOOT! I’m totally diggin the fact that fall has arrived here in C-Town! It’s chilly outside. The trees are starting to change colors. And…my allergies will finally be gone! I love fall. The only draw back, the little kids that live across the street from my apartment have begun to play football at 8:00 a.m. on Saturdays in my front yard. Really? Who does this? Don’t they know that sleep is basically the best thing ever?!

As a sidenote, I went and saw Cabaret last night. It’s honestly a pretty decent show. I’m glad that the theatre department is putting it on. Go out and see it before it’s over. The theatre department’s shows usually rock my face off!

I’m headed to the LBK this weekend to recharge. I’m excited to go home…though I’ll miss my friends here.

Have a great one.

goodness, gracious, great buffs a fire!

Homecoming week is officially over. Sad. However, I do have a confession to make. Friday afternoon, I was sick of Homecoming. All the work, all the paint, the pomp, the time, the headaches for what a day’s worth of events. I was OVER it.

I was over it until, Pigskin Revue, the big pep rally before the bonfire. By the third time the band played the fight song, I had regained part of my Buff Pride. At the same time though the thought was in my head, “Can we please get this over with? Bed is sounding awfully nice!” After Pigskin was over the Student Body Officers, the RHA President and Dr. O’Brien headed over to the Eternal Flame to light the torches that would eventually light the Bonfire.

It was that little flame that lit the flame in my heart. I was passionate again for WT, for Homecoming. I was a part of the torch processional. We marched across the Pedestrian Mall {WHOA! AMAZING Experience….I’m excited about this new tradition.} We followed the O’Brien’s car as we travelled down the streets of campus; the band was blaring the fight song, the herdsmen were chanting, bells were ringing. The energy was AWESOME!

As the Bonfire was lit, my passion for Homecoming was regained. A smile was on my face the rest of the night. The Bonfire meant so much to me, it was my last Bonfire as a student. It culminated my University experience. So many memories were brought forth. I saw so many friends both current students and alumni. The whole community was out there. The Bonfire unified everyone. We were all Buffs for that night.

someone didn’t get their full 8 hours of sleep…

It is always funny to watch the faces of your fellow students when they wake up from that awesome nap…in the middle of class.

Today, during my 11:00 o’clock, a few guys totally passed out on their desks asleep. I noticed this and kept my eye on them while I took notes.  One even began to snore.  So crazy.
